Jacob's 4th grade year is written all over his face in that middle picture. He is confident, comfortable, happy and loved. Judy Olson is a legend 'round these parts. She is an amazing teacher and educator. She loves what she does. She loves children. She tells tall tales, and you never know which ones are true or false. She makes the kids call her "the queen" and she means it. She can be scary and sweet. She can be mean and melodic in the same breath. She lets them into her life – gives them her cell phone number, asks them to bring her their report cards in 5th grade, checks on them and just thinks they are wonderful people. On the last day she sat them all in front of her to hand out awards and read each student a personal letter.
This was Jacob's:
Dear Jacob:
Your enthusiasm for learning is awesome! You are not just inquisitive, you are also very observant; you use your observations to think and ponder – then you ask more questions! You are creative, sensitive, and responsible. Your creative writing is awesome, and I hope you will continue to develop and fine tune your skills. You will always set high goals for yourself, and because of your enthusiasm and determination, you will always achieve them. Jacob – you will go far! Love always,
Judy Olson
Jacob got an award for being on the A Honor Roll, an award for making commended on all of his TAKS tests (including a 4 on his writing) and a Science Award.
Jacob is naturally bright and a gifted learner. He knows HOW to learn and he LOVES it. Those things come naturally to him. But confidence does not. And this special teacher helped that grow this year for him and I love her for it.
