It’s official…Jacob’s a Kindergartener! He was up bright and early this morning, had a great breakfast and was very enthusiastic about the lunch I packed for him. (I think he’s just excited to have a lunch box). He proudly tied his new shoes, and we were off. As we walked to the school in all of the traffic and people, he slowed his pace a little and I found myself dragging him along. We found his teacher who had the kids lined up outside his class and was teaching them where to put their backpacks, folders, lunch, etc. He’s one of about 160 Kindergarteners at the school…8 classes! But his teacher is the team leader…Mrs. Morrison and we think she’s wonderful. I kissed him, hugged him and looked him in the eye. He was stoic, and serious, but confident. He had a real "let’s get down to business" attitude. I stood and watched off to the side for a few minutes, and he quietly said "Mom, you can go now." So I turned the corner and cried like a baby in Derek’s arms. Out of sight, of course. I quickly got myself together so I could help comfort some other mom’s in the class who didn’t have their "Dereks" to cry on. I’m good now though and me and Caleb are quietly going about our day…waiting until 3:00 when we can go get Jacob!

One response to “1st day of Kindergarten”

And so it begins.
Your entry today touched me. I know it was a difficult day for you, but you will be blessed many times over by the new experiences and the new friends and the new adventures that will be yours, with the entry of your firstborn into the wonderful world of learning. He will thrive, learning new things every day. Caleb will also be learning, he will be the one at home with you all day, except for the pre-school days.
Jacob is ready. And you are ready, too, whether it seems like it today or not. You and Derek are wonderful parents; the boys are lucky to have you both to love them and nurture them. This is the day you knew would be coming some day, and you want the boys to always be curious and want to learn.
It’s okay to shed some tears; tears are cleansing and good. So now put on your smiley face and enjoy all the blessings this new phase of your lives will bring.
God bless you all.
I love you all.
