Two weeks ago when we had an ice storm approaching I glanced out the window and noticed my year-old baby of a peach tree was already blossoming. I wanted to scold her for her carelessness! Her naivety! Her seemingly gross indifference to the threat of Texas weather! What was she thinking? She's like a teenager who feels the need to spread her wings a little too early…only to get burned in the process. I wanted to tell her to take it slow…wait on spring…don't rush in to it…enjoy the quietness of winter a little longer. But she insisted. And as a result, her year will probably be dismal, but hopefully not fatal.
Notice how the ice coats her blossoms so protectively…even beautifully! And yet it has so much potential to harm. Hopefully she'll learn her lesson…even if it is the hard way.
