So, Derek got invited to a marketing yuppity-yup dinner last night.

At Maggiano’s (an Italian place that I happen to really enjoy).

I had Minute Rice and Ranch Style beans from the can (lovely, I know…still struggling getting motivated with the whole cooking thing).

He came home with a free iPod nano…a little gift they just happened to be giving out.

And a $25 gift card for free iTunes.

I got two kids crying "I miss daaaaddddyyyyy" at bedtime, and Larry King Live.

Where’s the LOVE?!

Sometimes, and only a very few sometimes, the corporate world looks very appealing.

sidenote: I told him that after the pathetic evening I had it would only be right of him to share 1/2 the iTunes with me.  he agreed, reluctantly. 🙂

    Amen, Meredith.
I’ve thought and felt it all before.
    I will again.
    Motherhood.
    Sigh.

OH Merideth my friend, It’s not all roses. I too had dinner at a nice Italian restaurant in Chicago of Monday night. It took 3 hours by the time we finished cocktails, appetizers, main course, wine, after dinner coffee and useless chitchat. Woohoo…what a party. In fact, I’ve done that several times in the last 3 weeks. There truly is nothing better than hangin’ around people who are loud, obnoxious and intoxicated. Where would I like to be? At home with 3 cute little kids hangin. Sign me up. I’d love to put them to bed.
But wait there’s more, over the last 3 weeks, my travel consists of the following stops: Houston, Houston, Little Rock, Houston, Chicago, Dallas (sequested in a mtg room at the airport for 2 days), Shreveport, Chicago, Baton Rouge and Little Rock. Next week I get Harrison Arkansas and Memphis. Additional upcoming travel includes Miami, San Antonio, Palm Springs (tough duty), more Houston, Seattle and more. My favorite part about travel is waiting for them to board group 6 or Line C. (I hate group 6 and Line C). Close to that in personal favorites is the huge guy that won’t stop talking to you on the plane. “Serenity now”….and move your arm. I paid for that space.
So my advice, Erma, remember, it aint all green grass on the other side of the septic tank.
(wow, i feel really hostile after this post)
It sounds like we both need time at the Hickens to unwind and enjoy company.
    Thanks for the smile.

Don’t worry, Meredith. My husband would try to make it seem like WORK, but we know the truth. It’s all just fun and games for them while we experience the real drudgery at home.
The one thing he got right is that we should all get together soon.
Stay strong, sister. We’ve got to stick together in the battle.

I was just thinking the other day about the fact that I still haven’t been a full-time stay-at-home mom as long as I was a full-time working mom. And even with all the craziness this last week, I still have no desire to go back–even on the nights I fall into bed physically and emotionally drained. We definitely need to get the Smiths, Dalebouts and Hickens together–how about Banff?
