So, I’ve been trying to have the boys say "yes, ma’am" to me when it seems appropriate (and they know when it’s appropriate how? you ask). Trust me when I say, "They know when it’s appropriate!"  It’s something we had to do growing up and it served me well.  And it just plain sounds better than "yea", "ok", "whatever" (although don’t you dare say that to me, young man) and my favorite, "fine".  "Yes, ma’am" shows me you know the importance of what I’m saying.  It shows respect.  It just sounds good!

So, they are catching on and using it pretty well…especially Jacob.

The other day I was in on the computer and hear the boys playing in the living room.  And Jacob says this, "Caleb you can’t do that…say "Yes, Brother".  Caleb replies "Yes, Brother".  They continue playing.

A few minutes later, "Caleb, I told you to not do that (something about the pirate ship that actually belongs to Caleb).  Do you hear me?  Look at my eyes (classic mer-ism).  Say yes, brother."

"Yes, Brother."

This went on…for about four more rounds.  Until I finally pulled Jacob aside and we had a little chat to which he replied, "Yes, ma’am."

I’ve created a monster.
